Su construcci\u00f3n fue motivada por la necesidad de defender el pueblo por mar. Durante siglos, super\u00f3 numerosas batallas e incluso un terremoto en el siglo XV que afect\u00f3 buena parte del territorio de Girona.\r\n\r\nLa Batalla de Trafalgar en el s. XIX dej\u00f3 el castillo en ruinas y abandonado.
