As you climb the mountain, you\u2019ll spot the building\u2019s central tower between the trees that surround the former monastery."},{"nom_categoria":"Its history","contingut_categoria":"This former Benedictine monastery, founded in the 10th century, became the property of Nicolau Font i Maig, owner of Can Font, in 1855. At that time, the monastery had been included as part of the Madoz confiscation program and put to auction. Although the townspeople of Lloret de Mar had been putting together a community fund to purchase it, they did not manage to collect enough money.\r\n\r\nAgust\u00ed Font, then mayor of Lloret de Mar and cousin of Nicolau Font, decided to look for a solution and contacted Nicolau, who was living in Cuba at the time and had amassed a large fortune. He explained the situation to him and managed to convince Nicolau to send him the necessary funds.
