Apol·lo and Dafne Monument

This work was produced by the Girona artist Bonaventura Ansó and was unveiled on 14th October 2001 as part of the opening acts for the celebration of the millennium of Lloret de Mar

This sculptural work has been produced using different types of materials: the pond has been sculpted out of a single block of white marble and, at the bottom, a ripple pattern can be made out that symbolizes the sweet wave that reaches Lloret beach. Apollo is represented by the young person and by the dolphin figure, since in the animal kingdom it symbolizes the image of Apollo.

That is why in this sculptural work a dolphin is carrying Apollo to Lloret beach. This part of the monument is 2.5 metres tall and is made out of Carrara marble. The Daphne sculpture is made out of travertine marble from Persia. The reddish color is the color of sacrifice. Last of all, the monument is finished off by the symbolic image of a young laurel tree made out of bronze, a particularly solid and hardwearing material.
