Tirada a l'Art (casting the net)

Tirada a l'art, a fishing technique using a net operated from the shore was one of the ways in which Lloret's townsfolk earned a living for many years.

At daybreak on the first Sunday in February and on the first Sunday in December, everybody is welcome to take part in dragging the nets at N’es Trajo d’En Reyné to celebrate a way of life that is so closely associated with Lloret and to pay tribute to those who make their living from the sea.

For many years, casting the net was one of the few ways the people of Lloret had of earning their living. The hand-hauled net was cast from the beach and anyone who wanted to could take part. In exchange, they received a handful of fish and a few pesetas (when available), and it was certainly one of the most reliable ways of making a living in those days. So as not to lose touch with a way of life that was very much our own, to thank all those people of the sea and others who joined in from time to time, and to pay tribute to them, on the first Sunday in February and the first Sunday in December there is a gathering at sunrise at N'es Trajo d'en Reyné, (place where Reyné used to cast the net) to cast the net with anyone who wants to joining in. Once the net has been hauled in, there will be an old-style breakfast with the fish that have been caught.
